Christmas Specialties - 2023 - UPDATED

Tourtiere

UPDATED DEC 5, 2023
Our Holiday Tourtiere will be ready for sale Friday, December 1st. We only make it once or twice during the holiday season, so pick one up before they're gone. Due to limited space, we are not taking orders. They are first come, first served in the store, and often sell out in one day.
The first batch SOLD OUT over the weekend after release. A second batch will be ready to purchase on FRIDAY DECEMBER 15. We recommend getting here early, they always sell out.
Limit 2 pies per person.
Available in two sizes:
Small - Feeds 1 - $11
Large - Feeds 4-6 persons - $46
Recommended accompaniment:
  • Salt Spring Jam Co. - Onion & Thyme spread
  • Salt Spring Jam co. - Spicy Tomato Spread
  • Snowdonia - Pear, Date & Cognac Chutney
Serve it like we do, along with a slice of Oka and Grand Crème.

Port Soaked Stilton

It wouldn’t be Christmas without our Port-Soaked Stilton. We take whole wheels of English Stilton and soak them with Taylor’s LBV port for an additional six weeks.
They’ll go on sale Friday December 8.
(Kitsilano Store will have stock by 1pm).
Don't wait until the last minute to purchase. It usually sells out before the 24th.

Savoury Shortbread

It's been a challenge keeping up with these since late summer. We've currently stocked up fairly well, but they tend to sell out before December 15th.
Pro Tip: they freeze very well, so if you're planning on picking some up to serve over the holidays, may as well get them while we've got some.
Current flavours are:
  • Beaufort and white pepper (NEW)
  • Pecan & Gruyere
  • Stilton & Walnut
  • Grana Padano & black pepper
  • Cheddar & Chive
  • Gouda & Caraway

Vacherin Mont d'Or

This inimitable soft cheese is produced and ripened among the dark forests and rich pastures of the Jura mountains in the canton of Vaud. For more than a century it has been made here in small local cheese dairies. The cheese is finished in the traditional cellars where it develops its flavour with the distinctive taste of tannin drawn from its girdle of local pine bark. Vacherin Mont-d’Or is a seasonal cheese, so there is only a small window when it is available in Vancouver.

Just as with great wines, to allow its flavour to fully emerge it must be allowed to "breath" at room temperature for a few hours before eating. When it is ready it becomes slightly runny and to enjoy its smooth, creamy, texture it is best eaten with a spoon. Connoisseurs also appreciate it as a dessert, or as an evening meal, served heated with Helmer's potatoes or crusty bread.

Expected Arrival: Approximately Dec 12-14. A second delivery is tentatively scheduled to arrive some time around Dec 20.
We have lots on order. No need to reserve
We are expecting two sizes this year. Small +/- 500g, and 2 kg wheels that we can cut you a wedge from.

Quince 'Cheese'

Unfortunately quince did not arrive in time this season. We may see if we can somehow squeeze it in, but for now, it looks like none this year. Sorry.
