Travel to “la terre-mère” and sample wines from the region that Sideways dreams are made of. This exploration of Bourgogne, of its delicate, complex and life-changing wines begins and ends with terroir. Literally meaning “soil,” terroir is far more far-reaching and penetrating a concept than the translation suggests. Wine writers Sid Cross and Jurgen Gothe join visiting vignerons from top houses who will speak to the role of this passion – one that transcends the obsession with the heart-breaking grape Pinot Noir and of its fairer friend Chardonnay. The mythic wines poured to assist them in their tale include Laroche Chablis Premier Cru Les Vaudevey, Domaine Latour Corton Grand Cru and Jadot Chambolle Musigny Baudes. Allison Spurrell, proprietor of les amis du FROMAGE, presents an assortment of perfectly paired cheeses. This tasting will be conducted in Riedel glassware.
